Learning The Science Of The Water Cycle

This term, we started learning science. We first started learning about the water cycle, including the steps. Here is a simple diagram of the water cycle.

To explain it in words, big bodies of water like the rivers, ponds and oceans get heated up from the sun, which makes the water evaporate and turn into water vapour, which is lighter than air, so it ascends to the clouds. The atmosphere gets colder and the water vapour condenses into the clouds. The water droplets get colder and they get heavier until they drop. They then run off mountains into the soil or again, back into big bodies of water.

The reason why the water cycle is very important is because it has the same functions as recycling water, but the earth does the job instead of us. After learning more about the water cycle, we did a science experiment to mimic the water cycle in a bag.

All you need to do the water cycle in a bag is any kind of a sandwhich bag and a black marker, including water.

To do the experiment, get your sandwich bag and lightly use a black marker to draw some mountains, the sun, the clouds, and the sea. Fill the sandwich bag with water until it reaches the water. Put the bag near a window for the sun to shine on it. You can check the experiment at different times to see what part of the water cycle its on.

Here is the photo of the experiment.

Jaeden’s creative writing

Yesterday we did creative writing about a picture that Mr bell put on the screen. We could make our writing like a recount or a story. Here are the pictures we used yesterday and the day before:

Here are 2 paragraphs of the picture on the left;

The trimmed, somewhat perfect grass, with a modern house, dull red and pearl white, just like any house you’ve seen. The giant trees towering the house, like a castle, barren and scarred like a dying tree, without the lush leaves, colours of a flame not like your formal autumn.

The tenebrous  water, with an ambiguous castle. Magic scintillated the diminutive, murky, latitudes, just enough to reason the castle and the sky. The moon, illuminating  the beauty of the mystifying castle, yet on the outside, looks serene and tranquil.

We will continue to write more creative writing about pictures.

What My Group And I Are Doing For Mission Day

Today I wanted to blog this post because Mission Day is tomorrow maybe you wanted to know what Room 7 and I were doing for Mission Day. Our groups were Crochet Keyrings, Polymer Clay, loom bands, origami and other keychains. We did Polymer Clay for Mission Day.

My Recount For Cycling

During Thursday, we had cycling today because it’s in the school curriculum. Our coaches were both girls whose names are Stephanie and Lucy. Most of us were usually excited and couldn’t wait because we were lucky to have another lesson for cycling this year. She first showed us these tickets with the words; ‘reckless driving’, which made me sink into my mind about speeding tickets. Stephanie said that they’re temporary and can help you to get better. Stephanie is on the left and Lucy is on the right.

After the reckless driving tickets, Stephanie showed us a red ticket, again, made me think into the past where I watched football matches with people getting a red ticket. She said that it’s similar to what happens when a player gets a red card but when it’s put into driving. She said that hopefully we wouldn’t get any of the red tags and even the reckless driving cards. Luckily, we didn’t get any cards but some of us still crashed which was pretty funny.

After showing those cards, Lucy showed us a helmet and said to check the 4 s’s on the helmet; Shell, Styrofoam, Straps and stickers. To check the shell, check if there are any large dents or cracks. The scratches are fine. For the styrofoam now, squeeze the helmet with the shell facing you, and if it moves, you have to change it. If it also has large dents or cracks you have to also change it. Next, straps. There shouldn’t be any rips in the straps but you should change it. The last and final one, stickers. Check the sticker if it has a bicycle picture on it or if it has the word, bicycle on it. There are different helmets for different terrains and uses.

We all checked our helmets and got more instructions to wear it; first wear your helmet and feel the screw that should be behind your head. Turn the screw to the loud side or the right side. Use your pointer/index finger and your middle finger, then, put those 2 fingers on your forehead. If the helmet is past the 2 fingers, turn the screw to the left side. If it’s too close to your hair, turn the screw more to the right side. Next, clip your straps together and make them more tighter with the 2 straps on the side. Use your 2 fingers again under your neck and make the straps touch your fingers.

After doing those steps, shake your head facing your feet and get your 2 arms to catch the helmet. The helmet should stay on your head a little tight.

Stephanie got 2 people to say vegetables which were carrots and broccoli. I was in carrots. One went with Lucy and the other went with Stephanie. Next, Lucy showed us how to check our bikes, which is ABCDDQ. The first one, A, is air. Check the wheels if it’s firm like a hard potato not a soft potato. Second, B, is brakes. Use your 2 fingers like last time on your brakes and press them. Push the front and back wheel, They should have had the back and front wheel go up.

Third, chains. The chain in the back wheel should look like the colours grey and black. There can be speckles of rust but not big clumps of rust or you have to change it. The 1st D, direction. Use your legs and press them together with the front wheel in the middle of your legs. The control bar for the bike shouldn’t really move.

The 2nd D, Drop. Drop the bike only a little close to the ground and listen close for any funky and weird noises. The last one Q, quick release. There should be 3 quick releases on the front, back and seat. To check it, press down the quick release and pull it gently.  You can also customise the seat by opening the quick release and putting it back on the seat height you want.

My group and I got our bikes and went to the bottom court and followed her instructions once again to check our bikes, then we played green light red light in a circle. Then, Lucy showed us how to use gears. Gear 1, the biggest gear, is the easiest gear. Gear 8, the smallest gea, is the hardest gear. You can use gear 1 for mountains and Gear 8 for sand and concrete.

We also did more practicing skids, going through small spaces, and stopping in the box. This made us confident with bikes and speed. Next, we did our signs which were the left, right, and stop signs with our arms.

To end it, we put our bike gears to 2 and put on the grass with our helmets on the concrete and thanked them for teaching us cycling.

My Recount Of Rippa Rugby

On the 28th of August, I woke up, prepared, and got ready to arrive at school. I was filled with excitement, but also scared since I hadn’t played with schools for a while. When I arrived at school, I went inside my class, Room 7, asking to get my tags but I was just in trouble so in a fright, I went to cloak bay, wore my sport shoes, and brought my sports and school bag to the canopy.

I dropped my bag on the wooden stairs, where some of my friends would sit there, talk about things and maybe play with the other students playing under the canopy. While playing, I used my excitement to warm myself up by playing football with my friends for about 15 minutes, until Annamaria’s Mother, Mrs Tuugasala, called out our names since she’s our team director, so we jogged there using little to no energy and waiting for her to give us instructions.

Instead of giving instructions, she gave us pretty important information which were the matches my team and I were going to play against. She told us that we were going against Panama Road, at Field 3, 10:40 am. I was a little nervous and anxious at first, but I got courage when I warmed up.

Since it’s a long story, I’ll shorten it enough so it can’t be too long but not too short as well. Basically, Mr Bell told us to sit down in our groups, then he threw belts to all of us and asked if there were any problems with it but there were none. Then, Theo did a prayer so we could be safe and there could be no problems. After the prayer, We all went 2 singular files to the school gate, crossed the 2 pedestrian bridges.

While walking, my shoulder kept on hurting since my bag was very heavy so Mrs Tuugasala asked if I needed help with carrying my bags so I said; ‘sure!’ Why not? I had to try and keep my energy. After arriving at Dunkirk Park and walking across schools where they were practising, I felt more nervous and Intimidated when they were looking at us.

After arriving at the spot where no one claimed, Mr Bell opened the sports bag, getting a traditional Mat with patterns on. Then, 3 people helped him to lay down the mat.

Inside the bag was a med-kit, a rugby ball and mouth guards which I looked forward to. After they helped Mr Bell lay down the mat, we all put our bags on the mat and also laid our shoes near our bags since we had to be barefoot.

Mr Bell asked if anyone wanted mouth guards since you didn’t have to have a mouth guard since it’s non contact. I went to Mr Bell for the mouth guard. As he gave me the plastic box with the mouthguard inside, I felt excited, glad, satisfied, all these happy emotions.

To fast forward it more, I wore the mouth guard and drank warm water in my metal bottle and kept it in my mouth while doing warm up drills and training with my friends and team director, Mrs Tuugasala. Our first match is Panama Road in Field 3, 10:40, which is near us. While waiting, we watched matches of schools playing against each other. I want to end it pretty quickly so the match my team played against is Panama Road 1, Panmure Bridge 1, Stanhope 1 and Pt England 1 in Field 7, Field 7, Field 2 and Field 2 at 10:40, 11:40, 12:20 am and 1:20pm. We luckily won against Panama Road and Stanhope but we lost against Panmure Bridge and Pt England.

The people in my team is Annamaria, Geo, Kava, Marii, Franceska and Ezekiel. When it was 2 pm, we took a picture and went back to our school to  wait for our parents/caregivers.

My New Story In The World Of Dragonball

Today I wanted to do a blog about a story I created that was on the map of Dragonball which is actually pretty huge if you ask me. The things I found challenging is to start the story, finding the perfect place to set the action, make characters, but to also make a problem and a solution. It all started when my teacher, Mr Bell, read us chapter books where Goku was placed in the mountains, until, a girl called Bulma found Goku which started the adventure.

After he finished all of  the chapter books, he made slides about Dragonball where we would do activities like exploring other characters, doing drama, and more. This is 1 page of my writing;

A mysterious person asked Goku, “Goku, don’t you recognise me?”

“Wait, who are you and how do you know me?”

“I’m Commander Brunette, and I have come to defeat and torture you, for obliterating my father, Staff Officer Black.”

“Staff Officer Black? I remember him in the Red Ribbon Army. Those guys were really evil!”

“Enough of this, it’s time for you to go against my army, including my generals and myself!”

“This isn’t my problem…I’m out! Kinto Un!”

In confusion, Goku calls Kinto’ Un, and flies away.

“Nuh Uh, Goku. If you want to escape, you need to earn it! Soldiers! Fire the missiles!”

As missiles aim and target Goku, they fly and soar into the air, one after another. Changing trajectories, searching routes with the most accuracy and velocity.

Goku flies into the air with Kinto Un, steering clear of missiles.

“Come on! Can’t we make amends?”

“ARGHGH!” Commander Brunette Shouted with anger. “We’ll get him next time!”

If you want to read more, this is the link. I will still continue for this story but having this adventure with Dragonball always made me excited for what we were going to do everyday.

Cybersmart Challenge For Making Reply Comments

Today I did the cybersmart challenge for making comments and replying back to them because I needed to do a blog. For the slides, I had to put an arrow to sentences that were a greeting, a positive sentence, a helpful sentence, a thoughtful sentence and more.

It’s not hard but it’s also not easy because you need to read it again and it takes some time but it’s possible. After that, I had to make a comment to someone. The comment I did to is to Eldrich, one of my best friends.

Saint Patrick’s Day

Last week, on Friday the 15th of March, we went to Mass and sang since my school is religious and it’s about the saint of my school, Saint Patrick. When we finished Mass, we walked back and got our chromebooks. After we got our chromebooks, we went into a doc that Mr Bell shared with us in GMail. The things inside of the doc are the links that we could play around with.

Fun Fact! The feast day of Saint Patrick is actually on March the 17th, on Sunday, but we celebrate on March the 15th because we have mass on Friday. I first started on the top left link. The activity I did was to listen to the life and facts about Saint Patrick. In times where you are listening, it will ask you questions, for example, what did the pirates that kidnapped Patrick believed in? They actually believed in paganism.

I listened more and answered, getting them right. After finishing the video, it showed me the score I got, which is a score of 100 percent, which made me surprised because  in the classroom, it was really loud, from talking and playing the video loud, After closing the tab, I went back to the doc and chose the link for coding, and one of the things I’d like to learn, is coding! So I pressed the link and I first played a game where you have to go through a short and reach the picture of Saint Patrick and his Shamrock.

Pretty easy if you ask me. When I reached there, I thought that there was a surprise waiting for me, so I did it again until there were actually no surprises. So I watched the tutorial on how to code, then I went to where you can code, and started playing with codes. My idea is to make a game where you have to bounce the ball onto a small platform, then you have to glide into the air until you see a platform. Sounds easy, right? Well no it’s not easy. The first problem is, how do you make the ball jump? Sure, there is a command for the ball when it’s near the edge of the platform. This is where the second problem begins.

How do I make a platform and how do you use it? After I tried figuring the problems out, the bell rang and I was really excited, until Mr Bell said that there were no activities and it would be postponed to the 18th of March because of how wet and rainy it is.

               MONDAY    18/3/24    8:45

This Monday, it’s finally the time to do the activities for Saint Patrick’s day! So my classmates and I went back to class and waited for Mr Bell to mark us in the roll. The time Mr Bell finished marking us in the roll, we lined up, single filed, ready to walk out of the class. So we walked out of class and sat down in 1 row, in front of room 8. Then, room 6, the class that started assembly, said a bunch of greetings then started the sign of the cross, after that, they said 2 prayers about the event and another one about Jesus.

Then, they prayed the 5 prayers of the faithful. After that, Mrs Agnew did a shoutout to me because I was the one who mostly prepared the prayer table. It made me feel stage fright because I thought that everyone looked at me. Meanwhile I was thinking, Mrs Agnew called the people that got certificates, but sadly, I didn’t get one. After the people got their certificates, we walked back to class and continued with the doc Mr Bell shared us with. The doc is actually called the Saint Patrick’s Taskboard.

When the bell rang, I filled my bottle, got food, and changed into my P.E clothes. Then, we played with a football or tennis ball until the bell rang. Then, we sat, single filed, in class groups. After that, Mrs Bullot split us into 10 groups. There are so many things I did this Monday, I did 4 activities with the teachers, Ms Kyle, Mr Bell, Mrs Agnew and Mr Carol. I reached 3rd place and ate ice blocks. I would write more but it would be too long!

My Tribute to Akira Toriyama

Today we were learning and writing a tribute to Akira Toriyama because he made one of the most famous manga and anime, which is Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. He is also famous for making people’s childhoods and because he inspired other anime,  like Naruto or One Piece. Click This link to read my Tribute.

About Hauraki Gulf Marine Reserve

On Monday, room 7 and I were learning about the Hauraki Gulf Marine Reserve. Here are the facts about the Hauraki Gulf Marine Reserve:

The Hauraki Gulf Marine Reserve is 60 metres deep and it is 1.2 million hectares long, and if you convert that to acres, it is 2965264.578 acres, and if you convert that to square metres, is is 12000000001.595 square metres or 12 billion square metres.

It is also one of the biggest marine parks in the world and it is very different compared to other marine parks. Over 25 percent of the southern hemisphere’s marine mammals have been seen in the Hauraki Gulf Park.

It is also visited by more than 20 percent of the world’s seabirds. Hauraki Gulf  is known for being the largest marine reserve in New Zealand. In Hauraki Gulf, there are 6 marine reserves. There are more than 50 islands in the Hauraki Gulf Park.

The most well known islands are Rangitoto, Motutapu, Waiheki, Aotea / Great Barrier Island, Tiritirimātangi and Goat island.
